George Zaharchuk from Hamilton, New Jersey was born on August 5, 1924. During World War Two he was in the US Navy and served on board LST 530. Landing Ship Tank 530 (LST 530) was assigned to the European Theater and participated in the Invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
In 1965, George Zaharchuk married Kay, born as Kathryn Skordinski in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to Russian immigrant parents.
